We are deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Jenny Emery of Granby, Connecticut, who tragically lost her life in a bicycle accident on September 14th. Jenny was a beloved wife, mother, Nana, and an inspiring leader within her community, whose warmth, kindness, and dedication touched the lives of many. Her loss is a profound blow to all who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt in our hearts.
Jenny Emery was a woman of remarkable spirit and purpose. Throughout her life, she demonstrated a passion for community service, environmental sustainability, and building meaningful connections that strengthened those around her. As a dedicated public servant, she worked tirelessly to improve her town and to foster resilience and growth. Her leadership as President of Friends of Holcomb Farm exemplified her unwavering commitment to her community. Jenny was actively leading a campaign to transform the former West Granby Methodist Church into a vibrant, year-round farm store, post-harvest facility, and commercial kitchen—an ambitious project she envisioned as a “community investment in resilience, access, and place.” Her drive and vision for this initiative reflected her deep belief in the power of community and sustainable local food systems.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Jenny was a cherished friend, sister, aunt, and cousin. Known for her compassionate heart and infectious enthusiasm, she had an extraordinary ability to make others feel valued and supported—whether sharing a story, offering a helping hand, or simply listening. Her legacy includes countless friendships and mentorships that continue to inspire those around her. Her family remembers her as a loving mother and Nana, whose joyful spirit illuminated their lives every day.
A private family memorial service will be held to honor Jenny’s memory, providing a time for reflection and farewell. Following this, a public reception and gathering will take place on Monday, October 13th, from 2-5 PM at the North Barn at Holcomb Farm in Granby, CT. This event will offer friends, colleagues, and community members a heartfelt opportunity to celebrate Jenny’s life, share stories, and pay tribute to her remarkable contributions.
Though Jenny left many inspiring projects unfinished, her vision and dedication continue to inspire us all. In lieu of flowers, her family kindly requests donations to Friends of Holcomb Farm, supporting her dream of a resilient, accessible community space.
