With hearts full of grief and love, we share the passing of Alexandra “Alex” Elizabeth Fischer, who died on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in New York at the age of 28. Though her time was far too brief, Alex lived a life that shone with compassion, generosity, and joy.
Those who knew Alex will forever remember her as someone who poured herself fully into every relationship. She embodied the very definition of selflessness, showing up for family, friends, colleagues, and even acquaintances with tenderness and care. Whether through a handwritten note, a thoughtful gesture, or simply listening with her whole heart, Alex had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued.
A native Vermonter, Alex was born in Burlington and raised in Montpelier. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 2015, where she excelled in both academics and athletics. She debated passionately in classrooms, led with determination in sports, and left behind artwork that adorned the school’s halls. Her younger sister, Meredith, often found encouragement in Alex’s trailblazing spirit, and Alex took pride in paving the way for her.
Alex continued her studies at Hamilton College, earning a degree in Public Policy in 2020. At Hamilton, she dedicated herself to rowing, academics, and building lifelong friendships. A semester abroad in Copenhagen broadened her horizons and deepened her sense of connection to the wider world. Most importantly, her time at Hamilton led her to meet Eric Fischer, her future husband and the love of her life.
Her professional journey began in Boston as a management consultant, a role in which she combined intelligence with her natural ability to connect with others. Eventually, Alex relocated to Manhattan, where she and Eric built a home filled with love, warmth, and laughter. Known for her hospitality, Alex loved hosting dinners, celebrations, and gatherings that brought joy to everyone around her.
Her passion for bringing people together extended beyond her home. She became a beloved “social chair” at work, joined the New York Junior League, and filled her friends’ lives with opportunities for joy. Her calendar was always full, not for herself, but to ensure the people she loved had reasons to gather, laugh, and celebrate life.
In October 2024, Alex and Eric were married in Waitsfield, Vermont, surrounded by family and friends. Their wedding was a reflection of Alex’s warmth and style—joyous, heartfelt, and unforgettable. Together, they dreamed of building a future filled with love, family, and shared adventure.
Alex leaves behind her devoted husband, Eric Fischer; her parents, Jeff and Jean Stetter; and her sister, Meredith Stetter. She will also be remembered by her extended family, friends, colleagues, and the countless people whose lives she brightened with her compassion.
Her family will cherish the memories of her fierce loyalty, boundless energy, and radiant spirit. Though her absence is immeasurable, her influence will continue to inspire those who strive to live with the same grace and kindness she embodied.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Grace Church, 802 Broadway, New York, followed by visitation at Greenwich Village Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker Street, from 1 to 4 p.m. A celebration of Alex’s life will also be held in Vermont in the coming months.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Kellogg-Hubbard Public Library in Montpelier or the Washington County Family Center. Gently used, lighthearted novels may also be donated in Alex’s name, with a collection box available at the funeral home.
